What’s new in the world of pensions?

The mobility of the modern workforce and understanding the direction of the business world will be at the heart of two upcoming conferences hosted by consultancy services, Barnett Waddingham.

The conferences will take place on 14 June in Leeds and on 21 June in London. Director of policy and external communications at Royal London Steve Webb will deliver the keynote speech on 14 June and non-executive chair of The Pensions Regulator Mark Boyle will address the audience on 21 June.

To understand the key questions facing this audience, we spoke to partner and head of corporate consulting at Barnett Waddingham, Nick Griggs.

“The theme is around equipping finance directors with the strategic knowledge to tackle the pressing issues when there is a great deal of change within the pensions industry and how employees are saving.

There are people coming out of university who want to save for a house, which is probably their first priority. It will be over 40 years until they can stop working so shaping benefits to meet employees requirements is one of the main challenges we face.

Gone are the days of people staying with an employer their entire working life. The workforce is much more mobile and this is only going to increase.”

Other key topics for the conferences will be employee engagement and preparing for the pensions landscape in 2020, which includes sessions on analytics and change management.
